Obezite, vücudun aşırı yağlanmasıyla beraber bireyin vücut kitle indeksinin ≥ 30.00 kg/m² sonucunda meydana gelen bir hastalıktır. Dünyada ve Türkiye’de her geçen gün obezite tanısı alan kişi sayısı artmaktadır. Obezite çok sayıda yandaş hastalığa sebep olabilir.  Obezite sadece bireylerin sağlığını etkilemekle kalmayıp, aynı zamanda bireyleri sosyal ve ekonomik olarak da etkileyebilir. Çalışmada daha önce obezite tanısı almış ve sleeve gastrektomi ameliyatı olup sağlığına kavuşan bireylerin, obezite deneyimleri ve bunun etkilerinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bireylerin tecrübelerinin derinlemesine incelenmesi ve değerlendirilmesi amacıyla nitel araştırmalarda kullanılan görüşme tekniği kullanılmıştır. Çalışmada bireyler amaçlı örnekleme yöntemlerinden ölçüt örnekleme yöntemine göre seçilmiştir. E- görüşme yoluyla 10 katılımcı ile derinlemesine görüşülmüştür. Çalışmanın bulguları neticesinde sağlık, psikolojik-sosyal etkiler ve ekonomik etkiler olmak üzere üç ana tema oluşturulmuştur. Sağlık temasının altında ‘fiziksel kısıtlanma’ ile ‘hastalık ve kilo verme girişimi’ teması ortaya çıkmıştır. Psikolojik ve sosyal etkiler temasında ‘dışlanma’, ‘damgalanma’, ‘iş yaşamı’, ‘çocukluk’ ve ‘sosyal ilişkiler’, ekonomik etkiler temasında ise ‘kilo verme ile mücadele’ ve ‘kıyafet’ alt temaları oluşturulmuştur. Çalışma sonucunda obezitenin bireyleri sağlık, ekonomik, psikolojik ve sosyal etkilediği belirlenmiştir. Bu kapsamda obez bireyleri anlamak ve toplumda obeziteye yönelik farkındalığı arttırmak amacıyla daha fazla araştırma yapılması önerilmektedir.

Obesity is a disease that occurs as a result of excessive body fat and an individual's body mass index ≥ 30.00 kg/m². The number of people diagnosed with obesity is increasing day by day in the world and in Turkey. Obesity can cause many co-morbidities. Obesity does not only affect the health of individuals. It can also affect individuals socially and economically. In this study, it is aimed to examine the obesity experiences and the effects of individuals who have previously been diagnosed with obesity and who have undergone sleeve gastrectomy and regained their health. In order to examine and evaluate the experiences of individuals in depth, the interview technique used in qualitative research was used. In the study, individuals were selected according to the criterion sampling method, one of the purposive sampling methods. In-depth interviews were conducted with 10 participants via e-interview. As a result of the findings of the study, three main themes were formed: health, psychological-social effects, and economic effects. The themes of "physical limitation" and "disease and weight loss attempt" emerged under the health theme. The sub-themes of 'exclusion', 'stigma', 'work life', 'childhood' and 'social relations' were formed in the theme of psychological and social effects, and sub-themes of 'struggle with weight loss' and 'clothing' were formed in the theme of economic effects. As a result of the study, it was determined that obesity affects individuals health, economically, psychologically and socially. In this context, it is recommended that more research be conducted to understand obese individuals and to increase awareness of obesity in society.
